Their are over 100 different types of Arthritis: Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Lupus the list goes on. Then we have Osteoarthritis. The best way to define them, the first group is autoimmune in nature, where the body’s own immune system attacks cells within the body, so could be joints, heart, lung, kidneys, not just joints. Osteoarthritis means ‘wear and tear’ of the joints. So after the age of 30 ‘everyone’ will have some form, mild, medium, chronic wear and tear of their joints. However, with Arthritis it is always ‘best practice’ to see a Doctor and get the ‘correct’ diagnosis! I have read medical reports of females being found dead at home, heart attack, only to then find out for many years they had Lupus and it was undiagnosed. The earlier you are diagnosed, the earlier they can treat and prevent other problems. Just because you have ‘pain’ in the knee does not mean you have Arthritis! It could be caused by a infection, cancer, many other things besides arthritis, so see a Doc and get it diagnosed. Best of Luck
Yes, there are MANY forms of arthritis. I thought I had arthritis, but my type of problem is degeneration of the bones. (Degenerative joint disease) The most common are osteo & rheumatoid. Osteo is more of a generalized arth. & rhem. is when you get deformed joints, as in folks who have crooked fingers w/swollen kuckles. Rheum. mostly attacks the joints & I do have that in my thumb area & the "pad" of my hand where the thumb is connected to. I’ve gotten cortisone shots for my thumb situation which help immencely. Fortunately, my shots last quite a long time & can last up to a yr. or longer. The degenerative bone problem is in my lower spine area. This I HAVE TO take pain medication daily or I wouldn’t even be able to stand up in order to get dressed or be able to do anything for that matter. I also just started getting epadorals (sp?) for my lower back. I got one last June, & am actually looking forward to getting another in a couple wks. They REALLY help immensely. I would really advise you to go to your Dr. to find out just what your problem is as it could be any number of things. Then when you are diagnosed properly, you can get on the correct medication for the exact problem you have. This is the ONLY way you’re going to find out just what is wrong w/your knees. The sooner you do it, the better off you’ll be, the better you’ll feel to relieve the pain. I now have to go to a pain mgt. Dr. every month. But he has been a great help to me as before I was just taking medication from my family Dr. Now going to a specialist, he knows just what the problem is, & knows just how to treat it. Don’t live in daily pain when you don’t have to. Make up your mind to do something about it soon, you won’t regret it…Best to you…
