Without getting into too much detail, about 10 months ago, I severely injured my back(thoracic area) . As far as imaging can tell, there is no skeletal damage or nerve issues, it can only be muscles. At best, I’m at a 5 on the pain scale, and I’m normally 6 or 7. This is with both CR and IR oral morphine(30mg BID and 15mg q4-6 PRN, respectively), a NSAID, and gabapentin. I had to stop Flexoril because of blood pressure issues (92 systolic). I spend at least an hour or two daily very nauseous from the pain. PT hasn’t worked yet and I’ve run out of insurance, so the only treatment I can do right now is the TENS unit I have at home.
Here’s my question though: Once a month or so, I have an episode of unprovoked intense pain, the only time I’m willing to say that I hit 10/10 on the pain scale. It can last up to an hour. Nothing I have can do anything. Is it possible to get any kind of injectable analgesic to keep at home for this case? Also, would a physician write for anything like this?
(Ran out of room)- These episodes literally have me curled up screaming and crying(I’m a 23 year old guy, that is not easy to admit), nothing can describe the pain. I know people don’t usually want needles, and I’m no exception, but I’m desperate. Please tell me anything you can think of to help deal with this. At this point, I think an autoinjector or something like that used for insulin or epi would probably work best- does anything like this exist? Do I have any other options I could ask my doctor for or about?
Thank you all so much for any input or ideas you have.
I have been to a pain management doc, they could only recommend their pain program, which I can’t pay for right now.
Also, I was on amitriptyline for 2 months, but it had me sleeping 16-20 hours/day and exhausted the rest of the time and I couldn’t do that anymore. That was when he switched me to the gabapentin.

I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my knees and sent to physiotherapy who gave me exercises which made my knees and legs ache more. This week she is putting me in a warm pool to do exercises. I am on Naprosyn 750 but the pain does not go away. Should I even bother? I am on a surgery list but considered not urgent. I do work and its becoming increasingly hard to cope.

is there atleast some truth in the statement that the meds that the pharma co’s make are actually toxins that are really what kills people (over time) considering that to the body it is a foriegn substance? Take for example radiation. They tell you its bad for you and ok so it might be different kind of radiation BUT still to the body it is foriegn or else people’s hair would not fall out bc of high doses or even low doses of radiation. They say its supposed to keep people around longer but it also changes the properties of the cells as well. Also what is your opinion of this page? This is one of the reasons why I am so skeptical of the big pharma. Sure medicine has come a long way and sure we dont have all of the answers but for heavan sakes practice with integrity!(VIOXX - where they knew 5 yrs before the drug went on the market that it would kill people) Im sure that is a minority of the industry Heres the website http://www.studentprintz.com/home/index.cfm?event=displayArticlePrint
One other thing…The Human Genome Project was majorly big back I think in like 2000 and it was supposed to be like this big thing that would cure many things..it seems to have fallen off the map now…what if anything do you know that doc’s and others are doing with this project and what sigificiant things have they done with it thus far? Ive heard that they have mapped one persons DNA but thats about it.

I’ve recently been diagnosed with cervical spondylosis, and it can be very painful at times. However, I am more concerned about the degenerative nature of the condition than the pain. I am only 40 and I’m very active. I have read that a cervical collar can be very effective in preventing damage; but won’t that cause atrophy of the neck muscles?

Tried other FM rx,s; bad side effects;now on Savella and Tylenol for pain..helps only a little. Also prosac for long time..really helps depression. Savella helps fibrofog, but need more pain relief. Dont know if its mainly OA causing pain and Dr. says I,ll need narcotics for arthritis pain(bone spurs etc in neck, thumb also sciatica), but hate to start on them. Dispite Protonics(on acid blockers for years) now have occasional stomach pain.Is high dose of Savella causing more bleeding or irritaion? Should I go back to 100mg?( I think I had more energy then. What might help OA pain without more GI distress and let me see if Savella helps more than just fibrofog. I’m now taking 200mg Savella.,Trazadone(100mg)at night with 1/8mg xanax for sleep,1300mg acetametaphen 3xdaily and prosac 20mgdaily. also glucosamine/chondroitin and vitamins. Still fatigued alot with pain. What narcotic wont irritate stomach or make me feel "zonked" . Dr. said start with Tramadol, butI read that its hard on stomach.
Would appreciate any input.

My daughter is pregnant (1-2 months). She suffers from arthritis and since a few days ago has had swelling fingers in feet and hands. Normally she takes Celebrex, but now she cannot take it. Ginger and Tylenol with codeine have been recommended. What else she can do?
