I went to my doctor for back pain, and headaches, and he gave me Ketoprofen 75mg. I went to fill it and the pharmacist told me it was the same thing as Ibuprofen OTC. I looked it up in my drug book, and found that they are very similar, and both NSAID’s, but not the exact same thing. I know that the Ibuprofen was labeled as "OTC" and Ketoprofen was labeled "also available without a prescription" Is there a difference? Maybe the base product used to make the drug? I dont know. I am a nurse and it benefits me to research drugs as I come across them. Any help would be aprreciated. Thank you!

Most pain relief creams, etc. target the muscles, rather than the nerves that are affected by osteoarthritis. I have heard that glucosamine may be helpful in treating arthritis. I am not looking for a cure, just pain relief. I am currently taking high doses of Ibuprofen, which can cause liver damage. I would rather take something that targets the source of the problem. Has anyone taken glucosamine and had positive results for back pain relief?

Especially when I take ibuprofen or Aleve, I will get quarter sized bruises all over, with an emphasis on my legs and thighs. I’m taking about 25+ bruises in which there has been no injury. Sometimes I”ll get huge bruises. One time I went to the doctor with a sinus infection that wouldn’t go away. He saw a bruise on my thigh the size of a large cantalope. I woke up one day, and it was there. I never injured it. I’d also get bruises the size of grapefruits on my arms. Anyways he sent me for a blood test for cancer. He actually called me on a Saturday at home to make sure I got the blood work done. The blood work didn’t show anything.
I have a history of miscarriages. My fertility doctor said I had low hormone levels and put me on progesterone. After that no miscarriages. Found out from my OB I had MTHFR. She said it was one type that didn’t cause blood clots/increased risk of strokes, etc, but was associated with miscarriages. She didn’t specify, and I wasn’t knowlegdeable enough to know the kinds of MTHFR there were.
Does anyone out there have MTHFR and bruising?? I’ve been tested for anemia, and I pass. I eat a lot of fruits, veggies, milk and meat.

Why can’t I give my dog ibuprofen…since they are both NSaids?
Thanks to both of you!
Is there anything over the counter I can give him. I can’t afford .00 a month to keep him on Rimadyl but can’t bare to watch him suffer either.
His XRays show hip dysplasia in both hips and an old fracture in one of them. Surgery has a good prognosis for him, but I am on disability and can’t afford the 0.00 that is charged.
He is elderly, I just got him from the humane society in March and they said they though he was 5 to 7 and he looked to be in good health. Since I brought him home he has deteriorated and now has catoracts in his eyes and can barely walk.
I’m heart broken for both of us.
Thank you Jessie, you have been most helpful!

I have severe pain in my lower back due to herniated disks, stenosis, and degenerative disc disease. i am only 21, and looking for ways to manage the pain. I have been on Vicodin, Tramadol, Ibuprophen, Naproxen, and Prednasalone. The anti-inflamatories work fairly well, but i need something stronger. The prednalasone worked GREAT, but its a steriod, and they didn’t want me on it for long. Is there something between like ibuprofen and prednalasone? I took prescription naproxen, but it honestly didn’t work well, and i can just take 4 ibuprophen to get prescription ibuprofen (and often do) Painkillers stop the pain… kinda, but i end up doing more damage by not knowing my limits. Like i said, i just feel like if i can get a really good anti-inflamatory i’d be a lot better. Any ideas?
btw, the back pain is fairly manageable. My problem is sciatica that goes down my left leg. It really hurts, and prevents me from walking sometimes. Anti-inflammatories help this when painkillers do not.

I’m allergic to all forms of NSAIDs and I stay away from stuff like Voltaren (Diclofenac) and everything in the Ibuprofen family. Usually my eyes swell up really bad when take any of those. Recently however I developed a mild reaction when took some paracetamol tablets, which I’ve never had any problems with. Even though it wasn’t nearly as bad as when I take NSAIDs, it still bugs me a little because now it seems there aren’t any forms of painkillers that I can consume safely. What could the reasons for this be? Any help would be much appreciated.
K, Peace…

I’ve been taking ibuprofen for about ten years. I get gout. I’ve had accupuncture, phy. therapy, steroid injections and I’ve been doing stretching. All without improvement. Do the condroitin, osteo flex, etc. over the counter meds work? Does anyone have any suggestions? I need help. Can’t play golf anymore. Looking for some relief. I’ve never taken vicodin.

Dr. prescribed Diclofenac Sodium (50 mg) twice a day to replace my Ibuprofen (800 mg), but sometimes I think I still need an extra pain relief. They both are anti inflammitory, but Diclofenac is not an NSAID, so I’m wondering if I can take an occasional ibuprofen if needed. I do sometimes take tylenol, but it doesn’t help.

Do nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, and Acetylsalicylic acid produce acute withdrawal symptoms e.g. headache, body ache, nausea? If so, what is the best method of combating them?

I have 10 knee surgeries over the past 17 yrs, all on the same knee. Two were for a torn patellar tendon , one was was an acl replacement, and the other 7 were all scopes, even though the doc does a scope every time. Between the times i have the past 4 surgeries my knee has always hurt and taking tylenol and/ or ibuprofen all the time is not good for anyone. I thought taking those meds was for short term use. I have changed docs but it seems they all want to start over with the meds I had tried before even if I had documented that I allergies to certain NSAID meds and and allergry to demoral. Why is it so hard for the doctor to listen to me when I what works? But these days the DEA has them scared to prescibe, its not that im asking for strong meds, I just want to make my quality of life better. For the record i’m only 37 and have no addtiction history, and have even asked to goto a pain management doc.
